Living/Dining Room Floor

I really wanted to replace the stained carpet in the formal living/dining room with a wood floor.  We chose a solid bamboo tongue and groove and decided to glue it to the concrete floor.  The first step was to move all the furniture into other rooms.  The dining room table and a few bookcases went into the living room we use.  The china cabinet went to the laundry room, and four bookcases went to the front entryway.  Our living room became a bit crowded.

The next step was to remove all the baseboard, then take out the carpet and pad and pry up the carpet tack strips.  I loaded the carpet and pad into the truck and hauled it to the transfer station.
I had to scrape some glue off the floor and use floor leveler to fill in hundreds of little holes made by pulling up the carpet tack strips which had been nailed into the concrete.  Fortunately, the floor was in great shape otherwise.
Stephen used the skill saw to even up the tile so the threshold would be straight.

Next it was time to measure, measure, measure, and make a plan.  We decided where to begin and what direction to go in and figured out a pattern for racking. The adhesive was difficult to spread, but we needed 100% coverage because it doubles as moisture barrier.

One day's worth of flooring is in!  Stephen did most of the adhesive spreading.  I did enough to determine that I could continue without him the next day when he was at work.  Spreading adhesive, cutting boards, and laying boards is easier with two people but I was able to do 8 to 12 rows per day on my own.

When it was time to do the last rows, we worked together again.  It was a pain because of the glue that had squished under the first row of boards, and it took forever.  We were running out of glue and running out of boards, but we ended up with JUST enough.  Stephen cut thresholds and cut out the heat registers while I was in NY.  When I got back, we installed the thresholds and replaced the baseboard.  Stephen "needed" a new tool (toy) to install the baseboards.

It looks pretty!  Now we just need to get some area rugs and put the furniture back.

...and maybe I should straighten those pictures!
